Land Use is a key component of the Comprehensive Plan, as is mapping future land uses so that development occurs in the direction and manner most desired by Meridian’s citizens and elected officials. The Future Land Use Map (FLUM), see Appendix D, identifies the vision for a mix of land uses to implement the City’s many diverse goals and objectives, and works in conjunction with the text of the Comprehensive Plan, City code and the various policies of the City. However, the FLUM is not a zoning map and differs in that the FLUM describes the character and type of use that is desired in the future and not necessarily what is currently in place. The FLUM also depicts schools, parks, fire stations and other existing civic uses. The FLUM depicts a built-out Meridian that is very diverse in residential densities, commercial and industrial land uses as well as civic/public opportunities.
