Description: This layer began as part of the State Broadband Data Development Program (SBDD) Community Anchor Institutions (CAI) dataset which catalogued broadband service to a specific feature. ''Community Anchor Institutions'' consist of schools, libraries, medical and healthcare providers, public safety entities, community colleges and other institutions of higher education, and other community support organizations and entities.The Virginia Department of Education maintains a listing of Virginia Public Schools: https://www.doe.virginia.gov/directories/index.shtmlThe schools listings used were the downloadable .csv file including principal as well and a scrubbed version of the alphabetical A-Z directory. The data was subsequently geocoded against several locators within the VGIN Geocoding Services. The purpose was to create an Address Point match for each school for accuracy and to best represent an XY location of the school within the building footprint. If results were positioned on the Road Centerline by the RCL locator or any other in the cascade, those features were subsequently updated and moved to match the address point in the data layer. Unmatched results after several batches of geocoding generally had a P.O. Box or no address reported in the input dataset and could not be located. No Elementary, Middle, High, or Combined schools reported were left unmatched.
