The Caltrans Office of Natural Resource Management (ONRM) serves as Caltrans' commitment as a partner agency in the California Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force. The ONRM oversees vegetation management activities in the Caltrans right-of-way (ROW) along state highways to reduce the threat of wildfires. These Work Area Boundaries (WABs) mark the maximum areas of potential vegetation management for Fuels Reduction Contracts. Where possible, the WABs were traced from the edge of pavement to the extent of Caltrans District-provided right-of-way (ROW) data, from the contracted beginning Postmile to the contracted ending Postmile. Where ROW data was unavailable, WABs were drawn from the edge of pavement to edge of County Parcels. Parcels owned by Caltrans were included in the WABs. Where neither ROW nor County Parcel data were available, WABs were estimated using either a 100-ft buffer from Centerline or best available data, including imagery, the next nearest ROW, and/or Parcel data. Significantly vegetated medians were included in the WABs. The WABs attributes have been enriched to include fields for data tracking and reporting by District Vegetation Management Program (VMP) teams and/or their contractors throughout the length of the contract.
