Service Description: This Work Area Boundaries (WABs) dataset shows the maximum areas of potential vegetation management field work in Caltrans right-of-ways (ROW) along segments of the State Highways selected for treatment in the 2025 Caltrans Fuels Reduction Contract 3. Where possible, each WAB was drawn using official Caltrans ROW data. In lieu of available ROW data, County Parcel data was substituted to draw the WABs. Where neither ROW nor County Parcel data were available, estimated WABs were drawn using a 200-ft buffer from Project Location centerline with instructions for District staff to verify the true ROW.

Description: The Caltrans Office of Vegetation Management (OVWM) serves as Caltrans' commitment as a partner agency in the California Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force (Task Force). The OVWM oversees vegetation management activities in the Caltrans right-of-way (ROW) along state highways to reduce the threat of wildfires. These Work Area Boundaries (WABs) mark the maximum areas of potential vegetation management for Fuels Reduction Contract 3 in calendar year 2025. Where possible, the WABs were traced from the edge of pavement to the extent of official right-of-way (ROW) data, from the contracted beginning Postmile to the contracted ending Postmile. Where ROW data was unavailable, WABs were drawn from the edge of pavement to edge of County Parcels. Parcels owned by Caltrans were included in the WABs. Where neither ROW nor County Parcel data were available, WABs were estimated using a 200-ft buffer from Project Location Centerline, with the inner boundary adjusted to the edge of pavement. Significantly vegetated medians were included in the WABs. The WABs attributes have been enriched to include Task Force fields for data tracking and reporting by District Vegetation Management Program (VMP) teams and/or their contractors throughout the length of the contract.
