Description: These polygon boundaries display excess land parcels and disposal units in and around the Caltrans D4 Right-of-Way. Excess land is property that Caltrans originally acquired for a transportation project or other operational need such as a maintenance station. The property becomes excess when the Department determines that it will no longer be necessary for a transportation project or other operational need. Excess land is sold at auction, either by an oral public auction or a sealed bid auction. Under certain circumstances, excess property may be offered for sale directly to adjoining property owners. It may also be offered for direct sale to public agencies if the property is to be used for a public purpose. A disposal unit is the number given to the property for disposal purposes. It
may consist of one or more parcels. When parcels are grouped for disposal, the lowest parcel number becomes the disposal unit number. Multiple parcel disposal units may be split or combined along the original parcel lines ONLY at the discretion of the Excess Land Manager to optimize marketability or disposal potential as necessary.
