Description: This feature layer can be used to identify and visualize the locations of the access gates on the State Highway System in District 9. Maintenance is responsible for operating these control points as their corresponding routes are subject to conditions that can create unsafe conditions for the general public. Adverse conditions generally refer to winter weather and snowfall resulting in seasonal closures of mountain roads. However, conditions can also include rare short-term occurrences such as rockfall, landslides, mudslides, flooding or earthquake damage. All gates except one are on high elevation highways in Mono County that close every winter; the exception is a small section of SR 168 in Inyo County that is closed in winter as well.
