D9_Other_Caltrans_Districts (FeatureServer)

View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: This feature layer is a polygon coverage representing the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) district boundaries. While there are 12 Caltrans Districts covering the entire state, this item specifically does not include a polygon for District 9. The omission is because the D9 GIS Unit published the content intending that it be used for reference purposes within District 9 applications only, which use other layers for the district boundary. Caltrans also has Regions as higher level management areas. The names of these units are included in the layer attribute table.

Description:

The District boundary definitions are primarily based on the county boundaries. 2010 Census TIGER/Line county data were used to create this district boundary layer. Following the Census data, for the coastal counties, new District data use three-mile offshore lines instead of the coastlines that the old Caltrans District data had been used.
