Description:
The California Coastal Trail is identified as a trail of national and statewide significance. The Trail is envisioned to be a continuous interconnected public trail system along the California coastline from Oregon to Mexico, or 1270 miles of coast, covering 15 coastal counties. The trail system is primarily a pedestrian trail, located as close to the coast as possible. It is located on a variety of terrains, including the beach, bluff top, pathways, etc. It can take many forms, including informal footpaths, paved sidewalks, and separated multi use paths. The purpose of this dataset is to provide a current georeferenced, attributed, depiction of the current status of the California Coastal Trail. The California Coastal Trail is a State recognized trail system. Per Public Resources Code Section 31408, responsibility for completion of the Trail is designated to four State agencies: State Coastal Conservancy (lead agency), California Coastal Commission, California State Parks and Caltrans.

Date Updated: February 4, 2023
