Service Description: These are the State Highways segmented by 1/10th mile postmiles. They were then spatially joined to the 1/2 mile circular buffers that sampled the 2020 priority index layer and assigned to the priority range classes (using the segment's centroid). Lastly, the data was run through the Assign Postmiles to Feature Class tool to provide postmile data to each entry. Where necessary, manual editing was performed solely on Top17 routes.

Description:

State Highways are essential for emergency access, evacuation and fire control line. This dataset was developed by the University of California (UC) Davis for the Office of Vegetation and Wildfire Management through funding from the the National Center for Sustainable Transportation – Caltrans Grants Program. This dataset is an update to the wildfire risk model produced in 2019 by the Davey Resource Group, wherein the previous model was reviewed, replicated, and updated where new data (such as census data) were available. Researchers at UC Davis collected and assessed climate and fire models, and compiled new data for use with the model as a decision support tool for Caltrans. This dataset has also been enriched with Postmiles data for ease of data locating and reporting. Where needed, manual edits were applied solely to Top17 routes to match them with the current Postmile Linear Reference System (LRS).
