Description:
Purpose: The purpose of these data was to provide an inventory of Facilities and Activities for analysis of the supply of recreational facility related recreational resources to develop the  2022 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. These data are of various qualities and level of completeness. Organizations that maintain park facilities data were contacted between February and November of 2022 to gather these data from open data sites or internal data sources.

Methodology:
Each Facility was gathered, inventoried, reviewed then processed using a geoprocessing model which ran through the following steps:

1) Data was transformed into Alaska Albers Projection.
2) Data was queried to remove Facilities that were outside of the State of Alaska.
3) Attribute fields were standardize to the SCORP data model. The source facilities layers had 273 unique facility types.

These records were simplified to match the symbols supported by National Park Service Official Style. This consolidated all the facility types into 102 facility and activity types represented by the NPS model. Using this model automates the development of the legend symbols. Although the NPS model is very robust some facility types from the original data were not found in the NPS model.

National Park Service Official Style

5) Data was appended to the SCORP Facilities layer for mapping and analysis.

Notes:
There was an attempt to buffer these locations in order to analysis the points against mobility data but it was found that these data were unsuitable to do bulk analysis because for the small size of the locations, Overlap in the buffers, Poor spatial accuracy resulting in erroneous results. These data are instead being used to help interpret use in the heat maps by representing the facility at a particulate location in a park.
