This is a point dataset representing operable electric generating plants in the United States by energy source. This includes plants that are operating, on standby, or short- or long-term out of service. The surveys collect data on all plants with a combined nameplate capacity of 1 MW or more. Source: EIA-860, Annual Electric Generator Report, EIA-860M, Monthly Update to the Annual Electric Generator Report, and EIA-923, Power Plant Operations Report. Data period: April 2020.
The spatial data were obtained from the US Census Bureau and are current as of 2010. Attributes were modified to include only name, abbreviation, region, and FIPS code information. The coordinate system of this data is WGS 1984.
The spatial data were obtained from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and are current as of 2012. The layer is composed of 10km resolution grid cells, each with a DNI value. The Attributes were modified to include only annual DNI value, and monthly GHI values. The coordinate system of this data is WGS 1984.
“DNI stands for Direct Normal Irradiance, which is the amount of solar radiation received per unit area by a surface that is perpendicular to the rays that come in a straight line from the direction of the sun at its current position in the sky. This data provides monthly average and annual average daily total solar resource averaged over surface cells of 0.1 degrees in both latitude and longitude, or about 10 km in size. This data was developed using the State University of New York/Albany satellite radiation model. This model was developed by Dr. Richard Perez and collaborators at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and other universities for the U.S. Department of Energy.” - NREL
