An amalgamation of exisiting NOAA source data (2006 Photointerpreted shoreline, 2015 Draft Environmental Sensitivity Index data) updated and augmented by CT Dept of Energy & Environmental Protection Office of Long Island Sound Study staff using 2007 Pictometry Imagery as well as 2012 Leaf-off Statewide Aerial Imagery to photo interpret various structural features of the coast. These are generally categorized as Alongshore Features, Modified Shoreline, and Hydro Features, and are defined/described as follows:
Class: Alongshore Features– these are generally defined as structural features found along the shore, but do not necessarily that define “shoreline” per se. These features are described by the following subclasses: (Breakwaters, Groins, Jetties, Marine Railways, Pier/Dock, Other/undetermined)
Class: Modified Shoreline– these account for confirmed or assumed structures that either constitute the shoreline itself or are visible on the coastal landscape more or less within a reasonable distance from the coastline or in/near a marsh. These features are described by the following subclasses: (Riprap, Sloped, Vertical)
Class: Hydro Feature– these account for structures that have an impact on the movement of water throughout the coastal landscape and may specifically need to be considered when addressing flow paths. These features are described by the following subclasses: (Bridge, Culvert, Dam, Gate)
Each feature also may contain some more specific information such as a more descriptive measure of the type of subclass. Since this material was collected and compiled from different sources as well as being screen-digitized as brand-new data, not every feature contains these values. All however will have a Class/Subclass classification to facilitate searching, sorting, displaying, etc.
