Description: The Bermuda Benthic Habitat Mapping, Monitoring and Assessment Programme was inititated in 2006 by the Department of Conservation Services. The implementation of this programme was prompted by the general lack of baseline information regarding the distribution and condition of Bermuda's benthic communities. The programme consists of three components:Benthic Habitat assessment, mapping and monitoring: an annual programme where about 170 randomly selected sites across the Bermuda plantform, were surveyed each summer for 3 years and then repeat surveys at those sites done in the following 3 years. Seagrass monitoring studies: a quarterly programme of 17 permanent sites surveyed each year to look at seasonal variablitly in the environment and the seagrass. Water quality monitoring: from the same 17 permanent sites water samples are taken to test the physical water characteristics. Continuous temperature data loggers are installed at all these sites. This dataset contains the survey sites from 2006, 2007 and 2008. Each survey point indicates if seagrass was present and which species was seen.
