Description: The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail (PHNST) is a partially existing trail that generally follows the Potomac River. When the trail Northern Virginia section is completed it will connect Northern Loudoun County across the river from Harpers Ferry, WV to southern Prince William County near Quantico Marine Corps Base. The existing and planned alignments as of August 2021 are displayed in this layer. Sections with unknown alignments are not displayed. Major connecting trails are also displayed.This layer was created for the Northern Virginia PHNST Equity Study. The study was completed by BBC Research & Consulting on November 15, 2021 and released at the Northern Virginia Regional Commission meeting of the commission on January 27, 2022. For the latest PHNST GIS layer version that is regularly maintained by NVRC see the main PHNST Trail layer. The creation of the trails data layer was a cooperative effort among the National Park Service and the jurisdictions that are represented by the Northern Virginia Regional Commission. Created using a combination of Loudoun, Arlington, and Prince William County trails GIS layers, and National Park Service and Northern Virginia Regional Commission information.
