Description: The TPWD Wildlife Division uses Mule Deer Management Units (MDMUs) to help manage the mule deer population in Texas. MDMUs identify geographical areas that can support one of five assigned population density categories: High, Medium, Low, Very Low, and None, as well as a CWD present category . MDMUs are defined by using long-term population data from the results of surveys completed by the TPWD Wildlife Division.MDMUs were developed to collect survey and harvest data for the purpose of population monitoring. These data are used to make sound management decisions for the establishment of new seasons, season lengths, and bag limits.
