Service Description: # The buffer layer represents stream segments with associated environmental predictors and a final Suitability Score for Alligator Snapping Turtle. It was generated by buffering selected NHD stream segments (orders 3-8) by average stream bank width and computing relevant predictor values from NHD and the EMS rank layer. # Predictor Variables: # Stream Order – Categorical stream hierarchy (3–8), derived from NHD flowline attributes. # Sinuosity – Ratio of stream length to straight-line distance, winsorized to reduce outlier influence. # EMSR_AVG – Mean expert-ranked vegetation suitability within the buffered stream area. # EMSR_STD – Standard deviation of vegetation suitability, indicating habitat variability. # Suitability Score Calculation: # Predictors were min-max normalized to scale values between 0 and 1. # A weighted overlay model was applied: # S=(0.90×StreamOrde)+(0.75×EMSR_STD)+(0.60×Sinuosity)+(0.60×EMSR_AVG) # Scores were categorized as Low (<0.40), Moderate (0.40–0.74), or High (≥0.75) suitability.
