Description: Data are collected from various sources including: research reports, government reports, datasets, among others. This layer therefore is not a comprehensive representation of all aquatic invasives in the country; rather it represents observed occurances through time that have been incorporated into the database.
Observances are broken into categories by inveterbrates and vertebrates, and subdivided into groups such as reptiles, viruses, plants, bryozoans, and mollusks. This dataset contains all reported observances in the NAS/GLANSIS databases as of July 2014, which was limited to coincide with the extent of the Great Lakes Basin as defined by the GLAHF Hydrology Data v1.0 watershed layer.

1) The Nonindigenous Aquatic Species (NAS) database, United State Geological Survey; 2) Great Lakes Aquatic Nonindigenous Species Information System (GLANSIS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; 3) The Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Framework (GLAHF) project has been funded by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust and led by Dr. Catherine Riseng, PI at the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment, with partners from Michigan Department of Natural Resources-Institute for Fisheries Research, NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, International Joint Commission, Michigan State University, The Nature Conservancy, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, University of Minnesota-Duluth, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey and many collaborating partners in both the USA and Canada.
