Service Description: I mapped existing restaurant locations within a ½ mile radius of the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Homewood campus and conducted a Weighted Overlay analysis to identify optimal areas for new restaurant development. Key factors considered included walkability (2, 5, and 10-minute walk times), competition density (Kernel Density analysis of existing restaurants), and zoning restrictions. To ensure viable placement, only commercially zoned areas were considered for potential development. The Kernel Density raster was reclassified to categorize restaurant competition levels, with moderate density areas weighted higher to balance foot traffic and market saturation. The final suitability model highlights the most favorable locations for new establishments, ensuring accessibility for students and visitors while avoiding oversaturated markets.
