However, this is a standard file that is commomly used by tollway staff to reference locations on the Illinois Tollway system. withheld NewReferenceLine This dataset is the principal reference line used by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority Planning Department and is used to plot all route events along its linear referencing system. New measures across the entire Tollway system were recalculated in year 2009. The measures for the reference line were aggregated thought the various Tollway Systems befinning in year 2009. For the specific implemention dates see the field effdate.This dataset is a GIS representation of the Illinois Tollway's reference line, which includes the linear referencing system employed by the Illinois Tollway for each toll highway. The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority operates five tollways: - Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway. This road is designated as Interstate 88 (I-88) and was once known at varies times as the East-West Tollway and Illinois Route 190, among other names. The road's western terminus is near Rock Falls, where I-88 ceases to be a tollway and continues toward Moline, Illinois, as a freeway. The eastern terminus is just west of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). - Veterans Memorial Tollway. This road is designated as I-355 and is the newest tollway. The Veterans Memorial Tollway is designed to connect the northwest Chicago suburbs with the southwest suburbs. It was extended to I-80 (Moline Expressway) in Will County at New Lenox at milepost 0.0 in November 2007. The northern terminus is near Army Trail Road. The new segment from milepost 0.0 to 12.36 is commonly known as the South Extension. To coincide with the opening of the South Extension, the tollway was renamed from the North-South Tollway to the Veterans Memorial Tollway. - Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. (This dataset represents a complete change in directional numbering /measures from the previous reference line. The change represents the correct numbering based on Federal guidelines stipulating that and East - west Tollway should increase in measure as you move from East to West.) This road is designated as I-90, but also carries the I-39 designation from Cherry Valley to Rockton just south of the Wisconsin border. This tollway connects Chicago with its northwestern suburbs, Rockford, and southern Wisconsin. The road's eastern terminus is at the John F. Kennedy Expressway (I-90) near milepost 0.0 (this is explained later). The western terminus is at Rockton Road in Winnebago County north of Rockford at milepost. The tollway was given a memorial designation in 2007 honoring Hull House founder Jane Addams. - Tri-State 294. This toll road has three different interstate designations. From its southern terminus near the Bishop Ford Expressway at milepost 0.0 to the Edens Spur Tollway, it is known as I-294. North of the Edens Spur Tollway, it is designated as I-94. For a short distance from the Bishop Ford Expressway to the Moline Expressway, the road carries the I-80 designation as well. The road's northern terminus is near the US 41 entrance ramp at milepost 76.94. The road is intended to be a loop around the city of Chicago as well as connect the region with both northwest Indiana and southeast Wisconsin. - Tri-State 94. The linear referencing system attached to the reference line is a hybrid of measure length calculations and physical milepost locations. To plot route events, use the GUID attribute to identify the route. The Illinois Tollway assigns a GUID number to each tollway as follows: 21 = Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway 22 = Veterans Memorial Tollway 23 = Jane Addams Memorial Tollway 24 = Tri State 294 Tollway 25 = Tri-State 94 Tollway The From_MP and To_MP attribute fields refer to the terminus points and reflect the direction in which events are plotted and described. 1) Due to the stationing used to survey the I-355 South Extension, the distance between milepost 0.0 and 0.1 is much longer than a tenth of a mile. The stationing point used to design the road is well north of the I-80, resulting in the enlongated tenth of a mile. Upon learning of this in Fall 2007, the Illinois Tollway's Planning Department decided enlongate the measure rather than employ negative numbers in its LRS in that location. The Route field refers to the principal designation, is not geographically tied to the extent of each designation, and should not be used for labeling purposes. The reference line within this dataset was constructed from a CADD file maintained by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority's Engineering Department. No additional information exists concerning the CADD conversion method, date, or linear referencing system construction. No information exists concerning the construction of the original CADD file. This is a legacy dataset and likely will be replaced with bi-directional reference lines for each segment with a re-configured linear referencing system.
