Description: Hydraulic fracturing in oil and gas exploration has been booming in recent years. California's Monterey Shale has one the largest potential oil and gas reserved for hydraulic fracturing in the industry. The state's first draft of regulation on hydraulic fracturing has just passed recently. The passing of the regulation will increase the activities of hydraulic fracturing from oil companies. While this can be a pros for economy, environmentalist and citizens are concern about the impacts of the fracturing on ground water pollution as well as the triggering of local active faults.
This map contains all the hydraulic fracturing wells located in California that are within the two miles buffer of active faults and three miles buffer of ground water aquifer. For those who interested in investigation further, those wells located in Topatopa mountain near the large active fault in Ventura county are good sites to start for the high volume of wells, the large and active faults, and vicinity near high population density areas.
