These data were compiled from various sources to support the National Park Service (NPS) Park Atlas project. All data and graphics were approved by park staff as reasonably accurate to display features within and adjacent to the park boundary. Except where previous naming conventions existed, all of the feature classes contained adhere to the NPS Layer Naming Conventions developed by the NPS GIS Council. This dataset is not a comprehensive library of all GIS data for an individual park; rather it is a compilation of data readily available at the time the park atlas was developed. The Park Atlas includes all levels of data identified by the NPS GIS Council as Authoritative, Trusted, Documented, and Raw. Where possible Authoritative, Trusted, and Documented data were consumed directly from the data steward for mapping and have not been duplicated in this geodatabase. Non-NPS data such as ESRI streetmap data and other external map services may have been used in this atlas and are not provided in this geodatabase. Not all the raw data contained in the geodatabase include metadata and it is not the intent of the Park Atlas project to create or update metadata at the feature class level. Minor feature edits may have taken place to correct topology and spatial accuracy of some layers. These edits were made for cartographic purposes and to remedy errors that may have affected the overall usability of the atlas. Major feature edits were captured in the metadata for that layer. The UPDE Public Park Atlas was updated in September 2020..
A Park Atlas is a GIS product that is published as digital map services and web mapping application in a server-based environment. The purpose of the Park Atlas is to act as a reference for park projects and daily operations as well as to facilitate planning decisions as a GIS-based planning support tool. The Park Atlas is developed as part of the park Foundation Document process.
