Sandy_Hook_Shoreline_Change_2007_to_2012 (FeatureServer)

View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: Shoreline change rates for the Sandy Hook unit of Gateway National Recreation Area from 2007 to 2012. Transects were cast from a midshore baseline by NCBN using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS v5.0), which replicated as closely as possible the original GATE transects, created by a Rutgers team with DSAS v4.3. These newly cast transects were then trimmed in DSAS v5.0 to the shoreline change envelope. A baseline was established parallel to the overall trend of the GATE shorelines (collected in spring from 2007 to 2012) and transects were cast perpendicular to the baseline at intervals of 10 meters. The points of intersection between the transects and the shorelines were used to calculate shoreline change rates. Transects are labeled with the linear regression rate (which indicates the annual shoreline change rate at that transect) and the 95% confidence interval. Note that the length of each transect in this map is determined by the shoreline change envelope (the greatest distance between all shorelines at that transect), not the net shoreline movement (the distance between the oldest and most recent shorelines). Please refer to DSAS for further information on rate calculations and field descriptions, and to the 2007-2012 GATE Shoreline Position Trend Report for details on data analysis and results.
