Description: Contour lines for Gateway National Recreation Area at 2 meter intervals. The source data (LiDAR LAS files) were processed by Woolpert Inc. to determine that no voids existed within the coverage. The point cloud then underwent classification into ASPRS LiDAR classes, including a manual QA/QC on the bare earth points to ensure all artifacts were removed correctly. Ground control points were used to perform accuracy checks. When LAS files received by NOAA, classes 11 (unknown), 15 (unknown) and 17 (default overlap) were combined and assigned to class 12 (overlap). This data was then downloaded from the NOAA Coastal Services Center, this data was input into a mosaic dataset where ground returns were selected to create a bare earth DEM for each park unit. The Focal Statistics tool (Spatial Analyst) was then used to create a smoothed bare earth DEM for each park unit. This analysis used a circle neighborhood at a 5 (SIU & SHU) and 8 (JBU) map unit radius with a mean statistics type. The Contour tool (Spatial Analyst) was then used to create contours lines at 2 meter intervals. These data were then edited to remove all contour lines less than or equal to zero. This was done as a "zero" elevation contour do not indicate seal level and inaccurately depict the coastline, discouraging misuse of these data. The source LiDAR data was downloaded from the NOAA Coastal Services Center Digital Access Viewer.
