Description:

Snowmachine/snowmobile use is prohibited each winter until the park superintendent has made a determination that there is adequate snow cover. Adequate snow cover is determined by evaluating the ability of the snow pack to support snowmachine/snowmobile use in a manner that does not damage resource values such as vegetation and soils. A combination of factors such as snow depth, snow structure, and the characteristics of the vegetation in the area are considered in this evaluation. The topography, weather, vegetation, and use patterns vary significantly from area to area with the park and preserve. One determination for the entire park would not provide adequate protection for the resource, nor would it represent a reasonable effort to provide for visitor use. Therefore, Denali is split into snowmachine/snowmobile use units to allow for area specific determination of adequate snowcover.

Always check the Denali National Park and Preserve website for current closures.
