<idAbs>This dataset is part of the common observation in the centralized repository for public access, also known as the Common Observatory Repository (CORe), of the USDA ARS Long-Term Agro-ecosystem Research (LTAR) network. This is a National Program 211: Water Availability and Watershed Management. Also The National Wind Erosion Research Network was established in 2014 as a collaborative effort led by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Long Term Agro-Ecosystem Research (LTAR) network and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The research domain incorporates the diverse soils and vegetation communities in the rangelands and croplands of the western United States, with sites located in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, Colorado, North Dakota, Utah, Idaho and Washington. We have a tower that collects data for the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network. Our site is part of the NEON project with a tower that is designed to collect and provide open data that characterize and quantify complex, rapidly changing ecological processes across the US. We have a National Center for Environmental Information (NOAA) tower that collects daily summaries of weather data. A Natural Resource Conservation (NRCS) National Water and Climate tower that collects snow and water data.</idAbs>
<idPurp>This data set is to share all site locations of meteorological towers, soil and rain gauges located on the Northern Great Plains Laboratory with output data produced from those towers.</idPurp>
<suppInfo>"Vision and goals of the LTAR
Vision: Transdisciplinary science conducted over decades on the land in different regions, geographically scalable, enhancing the sustainability of agro-ecosystem goods and services.
Goal: To sustain a land-based infrastructure for research, environmental management testing, and education that enables understanding and forecasting of the Nation’s capacity to provide agricultural commodities and other ecosystem goods and services under changing environmental and resource-use conditions."

Research at the Mandan site is funded by the USDA-Agricultural Research Service (ARS) via ARS Project Number 3064-21660-003-00, in coordination with the Long-term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) network.  Site availability is facilitated by the Area IV Soil Conservation Districts in North Dakota.</suppInfo>
