            <purpose>These spatial data sets provide SRWMD and other government agencies with a consolidated resource for watershed information at various levels of geographic extent. The data sets are intended to support watershed analysis, planning, permitting, regulatory, and other functions at SRWMD.  They have been edited and modified by the District to reflect better information available at the regional level, and to better meet the specific needs of the GIS users at SRWMD.

These data were originally digitized at a scale of 1:250,000 with some portions of coverage at 1:100,000- and 1:2 million scale. Limitations of the data strictly revolve around this scale input. Use of these boundaries with larger scale data (i.e. 1:24k hydrography) is not recommended as it would be beyond the resolution capabilities of the data set.

This data was created by the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) to be used for planning purposes only.             <dsoverv>Surfacewater watersheds are topographic land features which contain a unique hydrologic area of surface drainage.  "SBAS" was orginally created by USGS as part of a cooperative effort between the USGS and DEP to create a statewide basin or watershed map. </dsoverv>
            <eaover>For definition of drainage basins, there are two principal tabular data elements of interest. The first, "HUC", stands for the Hydrologic Unit Code and includes the 8-digit cataloging unit as assigned to the basin polygon by the U.S. Geological Survey. The second item, "NAME", is provided with this data set to allow a user to perform a temporary join between the basin polygons and display or query basins based on their assigned text names rather than just the basin number (HUC). 

The GIS Basin Number has been redefined in INFO to allow selection of a specific level(s) of watersheds.

The meanings of the values are as follows:

	M= Mainstream- Ordinarily, these are main flowing surface water bodies that receive surface water and ground water flow.  They include all of the following major rivers and streams in the District.

	I= Internally Drained, no surface water outflow, drainage is vertical, and recharge to the Florida us usually rapid.

	L= Lake Closed, Surficial or surface water flow is to a lake that dominates the basin.  Recharge to the Floridan may or may not be rapid or be dominant.

	S= Stream to Sink, surface water flow is to a sinkhole that takes all the flow in the basin.  Recharge to the Floridan is rapid and direct.

	C= Coastal Flow- Broad areas along the coast not associated with lengthy river channels. Surfacewater flow is diffused and is confined to coastal creeks or directly discharged area of ground water also.
