Description: Patapsco River outflows into Chesapeake Bay and is surrounded by Central Maryland. This study area is 20 km by 20 km and includes Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, and Baltimore County with a 2021 total population estimate of 2,016,150 people (United States Census Bureau, 2022). The region is home to many industrial ports, residential areas and a major downtown core. Much of the area is low elevation and close to rivers like Gwynns Falls, Patapsco River and Herring Run, making it susceptible to flooding and storm surge events during hurricanes. Notable hurricanes that have had significant damage in Chesapeake Bay include Isabel from 2003 and Sandy from 2012.
