Description: This Baltimore neighborhood dataset, Demographic Profile 1 : General Demographic Characteristics, is one of five datasets that provide Census 2000 variables broken down by Baltimore City neighborhoods.  Other related data sets include:
Demographic Profile 2: Selected Social Characteristics
Demographic Profile 3: Selected Economic Characteristics
Demographic Profile 4: Selected Housing Characteristics
Demographic Profile Supplement: Selected School Enrollment and Housing Tenure by Occupants Per Room

The over 400 variables found here are those 100-percent and sample data questions used by the U.S. Census Bureau in the 2000 Decennial Census.   In 2000 there were 272 officially recognized Baltimore neighborhoods.  In this dataset the full set of variables covers only 241 neighborhoods.
In order to maintain confidentially, neighborhoods with a total population below 300 could not be reported. Those neighborhoods can be grouped into two categories SN=Small Neighborhoods or PNR= PREDOMINATELY NON-RESIDENTIAL. The following table indicates the neighborhoods falling into these categories.

Statistical Rounding
To maintain confidentiality, the Census Bureau applies statistical procedures that introduce some uncertainty into data for small geographic areas with small population groups. All cells in any Census 2000 special tabulation must be rounded. The rounding schematic is:

0 remains 0
1 7 rounds to 4
8 or greater rounds to nearest multiple of 5 (i.e., 864 rounds to 865, 982 rounds to 980)
Any number that already ends in 5 or 0 stays as is.
